FAQs
Below is a list of frequently asked questions.
How does the inspection work?
Our Preferred Service Plans include an annual maintenance inspection. During this inspection, our plumbers will thoroughly examine your entire plumbing system to ensure everything is functioning correctly. We will check for leaks, test the operation of all fixtures, and use dye tablets in your toilets to detect any hidden leaks that could be wasting water.
In addition to these checks, we will also look for potential problems that could lead to future plumbing issues. We will then provide you with a detailed report of our findings and recommendations for any necessary repairs or maintenance.
By scheduling an annual maintenance inspection, you can help to prevent costly plumbing problems down the road and ensure that your plumbing system is operating at its best.
This inspection is when we will do our water heater flush by connecting a drain hose to your water heater and draining out the majority of sediments and water in tank to prolong the lifespan of the water heater. (water heater flush is not a water heater descale)

Texas homes are built for heat — so pipes are in attics and freeze first.
After Uri 2021 and the 2023–2024 freezes, Pops Plumbing LLC in Thrall, TX still gets 80% of emergency calls from the same 5 spots. Not burst mains — it’s hose bibs, attic PEX, and laundry walls.
Where Thrall / Taylor homes freeze
Exterior wall hose bibs without interior shutoff, water lines in unconditioned attics over garages, and washing machine boxes on north walls. Homes on US-79 and FM 1660 have long runs from meter to house — more exposure.
The 28°F rule for Williamson & Bastrop counties
When forecast shows 28°F or below for 4+ hours, drip both hot and cold at farthest faucet at pencil width, open cabinets under sinks on exterior walls, and disconnect hoses. Keep thermostat at 55°F+ if you leave. That’s what prevents 90% of freeze bursts.
What we replace most after freeze
Vacuum breakers on hose bibs, 1/2″ PEX elbows in attic, and plastic angle stops that cracked. Pops upgrades to frost-free sillcocks with interior shutoff, brass stops, and foam + tape on attic lines — the $200 prevention that avoids $5k drywall.
Emergency 60-second checklist
Know main shutoff before winter — garage wall, laundry room, or flower bed box. Turn 90° off if active spray, kill power/gas to water heater, then call. Take 2 photos: wide + close-up for insurance.
Why septic & well homes in Thrall differ
Thrall, Coupland, and Caldwell have well pumps and septic. Well pump houses need heat tape and insulated covers. Septic tanks don’t freeze but drain fields flood in heavy rain — avoid garbage disposal overuse during wet months.
